Notes from General Meeting on April 6, 2017

At the last General Meeting it was noted that we requested quotes to make a proper rear parking lot at the Legion. Prices ranged from $5,400 to $15,500. This will be brought up again at the next General Meeting.

The Water System in the basement has been labelled “obsolete” and needs to be replaced. We have a quote of $2,200 to do this.

Some members of the Legion (namely Karen Boyle, Tracey Taylor) are going to be busy painting the Legion! Many other members have been assisting by preparing the Legion (like removing paintings from the wall, emptying cupboards, etc.). Home Hardware offered us a 15% discount on paint (thanks!). Scott Powell and Investors Group of Cobourg kindly donated $500 towards paint (thank you!). If you are available Fri April 14 or Sun Apr 16, just drop by the Legion and help Karen and Tracey.

We have received our new LED sign for out front. Brighton Recycle is donating the steel poles. Jean Calder and Jeff Wright have other materials we can use for the frame. (thanks!)

Our Bingo’s on Tuesdays at Bingo Country could always use some helpers. If any Grafton Legion member can spare a few hours to help run the Bingo please show up and see Tracey.

Sam Hall was at Areas F & G Public Speaking on April 8th in Codben Br.550, and has advanced to Provincial Public Speaking, May 6th, in Stratford City Hall (I think have those places and dates correct). Congratulations Sam!

On Fri May 26th at 10am, the Alnwick/Haldimand Town Office is holding a Canada 150th Anniversary. Members of the Legion are welcome to attend.

The Branch had submitted a request to Amend Branch Regulations regarding how a Quorum is determined. The Branch needs to do business and with attendance of our Monthly General Meetings being regularly low, a request for a change was submitted. Currently a “quorum” for all Meetings of the Branch is twice the number of Members from the Executive Committee present at the Meeting plus one. The proposal that was voted on and accepted by the Legion will change that to a “quorum” shall be five percent of the total eligible voting membership as recorded on the files of Command at the end of the preceding calendar year. There were a few technical glitches with our submission and we have had to resubmit it.

Welcome new member Gord Pendleton, a regular at Tuesday night Darts, who was sworn in as a new Legion Member at the meeting.

Students looking to work volunteer hours are invited to help out at during our monthly Roast Beef dinners. Help is needed in the kitchen during and after the meal. Please see Jean Calder.

This isn’t meant to be the official record of the meeting (please refer to the official minutes).
